Métaprogramme SumCrop

SuMCrop

Sustainable crop health management

A metaprogram for sustainable crop health management

How can we produce while avoiding or limiting the use of synthetic pesticides?

To sustainably manage plant health, it is essential to both reduce crop losses caused by numerous pests (sensu lato that include animal pests, weeds and pathogens), avoid environmental damage and rely on the solutions the nature can provide, and, of course, implement viable solutions for farmers and everyone's health. SuMCrop focuses particularly on solutions provided by biocontrol and the enhancement of plant immunity. The metaprogram's actions structure around three key pillars: diversification, system redesign, and transition towards more sustainable systems.

It addresses both the management of native pests and the response to health crises triggered by invasive organisms. In the latter case, interdisciplinary work on the vulnerability of agricultural landscapes is crucial to develop preventive prophylaxis, as well as to minimize damage in the event of eradication failure. This work extends to social sciences, involving the organization of stakeholders and the implementation of participatory approaches.
